Description
Because the Roman bronze works cast sculpture for most of America's greatest sculptors in the early 20th century, this gorgeous bronze was no doubt created by an important artist, though it is not signed. The sensuous, languorous nature of the female nude's pose and her close embrace of the sinuous lily pad (which provides the place for a candle) shows the clear influence of Auguste Rodin and the Art Nouveau movement. This piece has a dark, lustrous patina, displays the foundry mark and the date of creation, 1904.
