Description
Entitled "Quiet Ocean", this wonderful basket sculpture was made by Japanese Bamboo Artist Morigami Jin (born 1955-) in 2004 and originally purchased it from Tai Modern, Santa Fe, New Mexico. It was constructed with Madake bamboo and rattan using twining and wrapping techniques. Essentially keeping the form of a traditional basket, Jin transformed it into a slightly irregular and airy sculpture with poetic undulation weaving and subtle variation in spacing. It is signed "Jin" under the base.
Morigami Jin was born a bamboo artist from Beppu, Oita Prefecture. He studied under his father Morigami Tetsuo. His work is known for their delicate weavings that achieve a quiet but confident sculptural quality. -
