Spanish Colonial Writing Table or Console, c. 1790-1800
-
Description
This is a superb example of a late 18th century or early 19th century Spanish Colonial, most probably Mexican, three-drawer writing desk. The mesquite (perhaps sabino) wood structure is solid, with no apparent restorations. The 24-inch single board top is an indication of the age of this table. There are areas of natural patina and wear which have been filled in. (The table is currently out for professional polishing with several coats of hard paste wax. Spanish Colonial pieces of this age and original condition are increasingly difficult to obtain. The rusticity and simplicity of this table will meld with several design aesthetics from period to midcentury.
