Angelo Mangiarotti 'Eros' Round Marble Dining Table - 1970s
-
Description
Angelo Mangiarotti, dining table ‘Eros’, round, white marble, 1970s
This sculptural table by Angelo Mangiarotti is a skillful example of postmodern design. The table is executed in white marble. The oval tabletop features no joints or clamps and is architectural in its structure. The table rests gravity-based on the four cone shaped legs. The top 'locks' itself onto the marble cones that are placed on the corners and that are kept in place as a result of the weight of the material. As a consequence, the entire structure is stable and strong.
Angelo Mangiarotti (1921-2012) was an Italian architect and Industrial designer with a reputation to mainly focus on the needs of the users of furniture. His designs are solid and strong and he always used materials that would stand the test of time. Being schooled as an architect, Mangiarotti was very precise in using the right material and the right sizing for his designs. -
