13th Century Indian Sandstone Stele Figure / Dancing Goddess Antiquity Fragment

This stunning sandstone stele figure fragment was realized in India, during the 13th century. It offers an intricately carved Stele figure of a dancing goddess in sandstone. The female form appears to have her hips torqued and her legs subtly crossed suggesting movement. She wears oversized circular earrings, a demilune form necklace and crownlike embellishments on her dress. In one hand she holds a long snaking sinuously curved form, perhaps an instrument. The sculpture is truncated at a bias just below the figure's knees, which adds an enigmatic flare to this richly spiritual object. Beautiful and with an unmistakably powerful aura, this piece is sure to delight discerning collectors of Asian antiquities as well as those with a penchant for truly special objects. The piece comes presented on a custom black iron stand. It is in excellent vintage condition.
