Pair of Louis XVI style gilt bronze sconces
French, c. 1900
Height 134cm, width 57cm, depth 34cm
This beautiful pair of sconces—or wall lights—is wrought from superbly formed gilt bronze. Each sconce in the pair is designed about the form of a lyre, a staple motif of Louis XVI style Neoclassicism. The lyre-form body of each is crowned with a fictive tied-ribbon, from which the lyre is suspended, and is affixed below with a drop finial comprised of a pinecone and grasping acanthus leaves. Each light supports five scrolled branches, each branch terminating in a single candle holder. - More Information
