Description
We know very little about the Mechelen landscape painter Karel De San. He appears to have been mainly active during the period 1829-1848. The painterly landscape with dramatic sky is in accordance with the romantic artists’ passion for nature. The motif of cows that do not graze in a fenced-pasture, but in the wild, is in line with a theme that was very popular in 17th century Dutch painting.
