Limited Edition Rispal 'Preying Mantis Zébrant' Floor Lamp in Zebra Wood. The iconic model #14.950 was originally designed in 1950 by Francois Rispal. This extremely limited edition model (1 of 6) is executed in richly grained zebra wood with a signed "Rispal" brass detail where the body and legs intersect. The shade is made from pleated cellulose acetate, consistent with the original material, and ingeniously shaped through a unique process developed by the Rispal house in the 1950s. This iconic newly authorized re-edition of the iconic lamp is made by Rispal in France using many of the same small-scale manufacturing techniques, scrupulous attention to detail, materials, and craftsmanship as the original.
The avant-gardism of Rispal is without question exemplified by the Praying Mantis, a name actually coined over the years by antique dealers and decorators. The 'Praying Mantis' has become a timeless and sculptural icon of the golden age of French design much sought after by collectors in the know. The Rispal brand was relaunched in modern times by Douglas Mont, a respected artist, lighting designer, and passionate Rispal collector. After years of assiduous research and experimentation, he relaunched Rispal with the help of Clément Bergès and Georgette Rispal, daughter of the company founder, reviving iconic designs from the golden age of French furniture.
Only one lamp in zebra wood is available. An American walnut edition is also available in a separate listing. Other wood options, finishes, and cord colors are available.
Compatible with US electrical with cloth cord and US wall plug. Accommodates 4x LED bulbs (included).
