Exhibited Framed Chinese Qing Dynasty Embroidered Fifth Rank Badge

$ 1,800
  • Description
    A very fine embroidered silk civil rank badge panel (known in Chinese as Buzi) in giltwood frame originally from the Annette Martin Collection and exhibited at the Chinese Culture Foundation of San Francisco February 8th - March 8th, 1975.
    The square panel is centered by a silver peasant, the symbol of the fifth rank civil official in the court of Qing Dynasty. The bird is surrounded by scrolling clouds, waves, peonies and bordered by archaic pattern. It looks up to a full sun on the upper right corner. It has no middle split, indicating that it was placed on the back of the robe. The work is of period and very high quality. Long and short satin stiches were predominantly used for the creation and was supplemented with forbidden stiches and couching stiches. It is displayed in a period giltwood frame with brass hinge and a paper label remains on the back. A digital copy of the press release for the exhibition will accompany the piece.
