Description
This sophisticated modernist exotic marble sculpture was realized by the esteemed 20th century American artist Dan Bedik circa 1988. Entitled "Les Deux Visages"- meaning two faces (or two faced) in France- this work literalizes the title presenting two faces of an amorphic exotic marble slab in a muted red jasper hue. The front of the piece appears like a giant clam with a oversized pearl in the center. The ovoid center appears in dramatic relief with incised sunburst striations extending out to the perimeter with fine dappled patternation circumscribing the edges. The back of the piece (the other face) similarly features a raised center and channeled detailing in relief suggestive of coral. The carved elements (the dappled border and channeled lines) offer a stunning juxtaposition to the perfect skein of the polished marble throughout. Beautifully executed in exotic marble and full of dynamism and verve, this piece embodies the qualities that discerning collectors of first rate modern art absolutely adore. It would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Mid Century to contemporary. The work comes presented on a custom rectilinear black acrylic stand inscribed "Dan Bedik Les Deux Visages 88". It is in excellent vintage condition.
