Description
Persian woven silk Qum rug with a woodland and animal design
Persian, 20th Century
Height 161cm, width 105cm
This 20th century rug was expertly woven by skilled carpet weavers in Qum, Iran. Its design celebrates the centuries old tradition of carpet weaving as well as the beauty of the natural world.
The large central panel is filled with a plethora of trees and bushes. Each plant is surrounded by animals such as birds and deer. The rich composition is depicted on a deep blue background while the illustrations are rendered in neutral shades of brown, blue, and green.
The sweet woodland scene is framed by several borders. The first is filled with further floral designs and is filled with a deep orange shade. Next to it is a wider frame, decorated with motifs of animals and plants like those in the central panel but coloured in lighter shades. The third is identical to the first border and the last one, the thinnest of all, is left plain only filled with a dark orange shade.
The two shortest sides of the rug are finished with cream-coloured tassels.
Of very high quality, this Persian silk rug would be a magnificent addition to an interior space as a floor or wall covering. -
