Description
A wonderful, rare, and massively scaled pair of mid-19th century blue-and-white Dutch Delft pottery jar table lamps attributed to the Makkum factory, the thickly potted baluster form vases having allover 'blossom-and-star' pattern painted in blue on white tin glazed bodies mounted with solid brass caps and three-light pull chain clusters newly professionally wired with twisted silk cords and phenolic plugs on water-gilt turned wood 11.13" diameter bases. Being hand-potted they vary slightly; one measures 47.5" in circumference and weighs 33.2 lbs; the other with a shorter neck measures 46.25" around and 31.2 lbs; the difference visually insignificant but mentioned to illustrate size and heft. Height of vases alone are 19"; 29" to top of cluster, and 35" as shown with adjustable stem. Provenance: Southampton, New York residence designed by Peter Marino.
