Description
André Margat is a multidisciplinary artist born in France in 1903.
André Margat was an animal painter who also enjoyed illustration, engraving, sculpting, lithography, and glossing panels. The Roaring Twenties followed by Art Deco were the artist's main sources of inspiration. He graduated from the Beaux-Arts as well as the "Ecole des Arts Décoratifs" (School of decorative arts) in Paris.
Animals represent a source of fascination and creation for the artist who joined the "Group of Twelve," composed of other animal artists such as Pompon and Paul Jouve with whom he exposed in 1932 and 1933.
As a poetry enthusiast, André Margat also illustrated several poetry compilations and became editor and illustrator of the journal "Poésie" (Poetry). -
