Description
This striking umbrella stand, which can also serve as a paper basket or wastepaper bin, dates back to the 1950s. Designed by Walter Bosse and crafted by Hertha Baller in Vienna, Austria, it is made from metal with a black finish. The front is adorned with a charming and humorous large brass sculpture of a rooster / cock, adding a unique decorative touch. In very good condition.
Walter Bosse was an Austrian designer and ceramist, renowned for his distinctive animal figures crafted from brass or ceramic. Starting his career in Vienna during the 1920s, Bosse quickly established a reputation. His creations are marked by straightforward yet evocative shapes, frequently imbued with humor and appeal. In the 1950s, he initiated his celebrated "black gold" series, featuring animal sculptures created through a patination process on brass. This series played a crucial role in solidifying his status as a prominent 20th-century designer. Bosse's work continues to be admired by collectors and design aficionados globally. -
