Description
Rare 1950s John Louis Graz Chaise Longue, Inset Woven Raffia
Offered for sale is a rare chaise longue attributed to the Swiss born designer John Louis Graz (1891 - 1980). Graz moved to Brazil where he became one if the leading designers. This elegant chaise is sculpturally crafted in wood and topped with inset woven raffia. The sinuous curved arms flow gracefully to become splayed legs that swing to the back of the chaise. The frame flows forward with tapered splayed leges to balance the design.
This chaise has been copied in Italy, however, those pieces are all upholstered. This chaise is identical to the only other woven raffia example that we have found which sold at auction in 2011 for $16,875. The chaise had been a prop from a prominent international photographer's studio. -
