Danish 19th Century Mahogany Inlay Narrow Mirror
-
Description
Dimensions: 58 ⅞” H x 16 ¼” W x 1” D
Fabulous 19th century tall and narrow mahogany mirror, likely from Denmark, expressing both Georgian and Biedermeier tastes throughout the carved, ebonized, and inlaid frame. Marquetry inlay as gorgeous Corinthian columns of maple wood bookend the top panel, complete with delicately carved fluting and acanthus. These Classic architectural references draw the eye inward to the central ornament of a spiraling conch shell framed in thin pinstripes of marquetry shaped like a diamond. Flamed and striated wood grain wraps around the skinny mirror plate (which is possibly original however no foxing or crystals are evident), marked at each of the corners with square panels of ebonized wood. At the bottom of the frame is another small panel repeating the diamond shape as above, occupied by a butterfly rendered in wood marquetry of contrasting tone. Please view the detailed images to see more. Strung with cord on the back, ready to hang in your interior. -
