Description
Handcrafted in Florence by renowned Italian artist Matteo Giampaglia, this exceptional pair of glazed ceramic lamps represents the highest level of design, artistry, and craftsmanship. Each lamp is composed of individually hand-formed ceramic segments (sfere and tubi) —stacked in a sculptural arrangement—then finished in a luminous soft green glaze, whose tonal variations and delicate surface textures are unique to each piece. The ceramic bodies are mounted on custom unlacquered brass bases, designed to acquire a warm patina over time, adding depth and richness to the work. Although conceived as a pair, each lamp carries a distinct design, offering a complementary but not identical sculptural profile—an intentional choice that underscores their individuality and handmade nature. The rarity of these lamps lies not only in their artistry but also in their singularity—no two can ever be exactly replicated.
Matteo Giampaglia (b. 1973) is celebrated for fusing painting and sculpture into singular, boundary-defying works. After graduating in Painting from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, following studies in Graphic Arts at the Istituto d’Arte, Giampaglia spent years exploring diverse creative disciplines including graphics, comics, video, installations, and fashion. Since 2015, he has focused on ceramics, applying his eclectic sensibility to create pieces that blur the lines between art object and functional design. His work is represented in prestigious private collections in Florence, Rome, Milan, Perugia, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, and London. In these lamps, Giampaglia’s sculptural mastery and painterly eye meet. They are not merely lighting fixtures—they are collectible, one-of-a-kind works of art, each requiring hours of meticulous handcrafting. Their rarity, artisanal pedigree, and commanding presence justify their place among the most sought-after pieces of contemporary Italian design.
