Floor lamp model H801, designed by Viljo Hirvonen and manufactured by Valaistustyö in Finland during the 1950s. The combination of leather, painted metal, and brass complements this particular lamp very well. Its adjustable height, angle, as well as the direction of the light, makes it highly practical. The lamp is in its good original condition with a very nice patina. The lamp bears the Valaistustyö H801 stamp.
Viljo Hirvonen (1916–1975) was, in fact, the founder of Valaistustyö Oy, the lighting manufacturer company that produced all of the Aalto lamps until the 1970s. The final results often involved a collaboration between the designer Alvar Aalto and the constructors. Along with companies like Taito Oy, which manufactured Tynell lamps, Valaistustyö helped set the standard for the highest quality in Finnish design lighting fixtures.
