Description
The award-winning “Ribbon” light model was originally designed as a table lamp by Claire Norcross in 2004, for retailer Habitat. Later on, Habitat played with proportions and the scale of the design, resulting in this stunning and rare floor lamp version.
Light sculpture is the only fitting description for this lamp, for it can hardly be described as a classic shape or form. The “Ribbon” lamp's design embraces the concept of radical simplicity through material innovation and form. It is evident that the designer was inspired by origami or, as the name suggests, the shape of a ribbon in movement, to create an ambient, warm light. The body and the shade offer undeniable movement that is exciting from every angle and curve. The fluid shape and flowing lines are the result of being made from a single material; aluminium was utilised to explore light diffusion, resulting in a piece that feels both contemporary and timeless. The quality and sheen of the aluminium softens the light, creating an ambient glow rather than a harsh beam. This choice of material also makes the lamp lightweight, yet durable. Simplicity truly meets grand presentation and mastery of finish in this lighting fixture.
The “Ribbon” lamp is as much a piece of art as it is a floor lamp. It comes as no surprise that in 2006, the design received a ‘Best in Lighting’ award from Elle Decoration.
