Designed circa 1964, and created in the 1960s–1970s, this leopard brooch by David Webb is composed of 18K gold, diamonds, enamel, and emeralds. The leopard with black enamel patterned coat, emerald eyes, and articulated legs, arms, and tail dangles from a diamond element. With its clever nod to the historic form of the golden fleece, this playful, gemmy leopard is by contrast full of movement and life.

Dimensions: 2.50" length; 1.50" width.
Materials: 25 brilliant-cut diamonds (approximate total weight 1.20 carats); 2 cabochon emeralds (approximate total weight 0.04 carat); 18K Gold; Platinum

This leopard design was featured on the cover of Vogue New York's December 1964 issue celebrating the Coty Awards and featuring several Webb jewels, photographed by Bert Stern, intermixed into the magazine's title. Webb was an award recipient that year, and the ceremony was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where the ultra modern jeweler regularly went to find inspiration in ancient art.
