Description
Created in France in the 1920s, these hoop earrings are set with onyx and diamonds. Each is designed as a slightly arched top suspending a free hanging circular hoop, set throughout with French-cut onyx and old single-cut diamonds, millegrain accents, with post findings. From a body of striking earring designs that were among Cartier's most popular styles of the 1920s, these superb hoops are light, refined and ultramodern.

Dimensions: 1.25" length, 1.00" width.
Materials: 152 old single-cut diamonds (with approximate total weight 3 carats with VS clarity and H/I color grade); 66 french-cut onyxs; Platinum
Signed: Unsigned, findings with French assay stamp and maker's mark for ME.

These significant earrings appear among a group of popular Cartier designs, many featuring jade and onyx hoops, some apparently inspired by Asian art. Several styles were set with flat "bi" discs, Chinese artifacts that first appeared in the Neolithic era, associated with royalty and thought to symbolize heaven. As part of their original body of Deco work, Cartier designers integrated these ageless forms into their modern geometric aesthetic and advanced platinum techniques.
