$ 2,000
  • Description
    Pair of antique early 19th century porcelain tureens by Flight Barr & Barr
    English, c. 1820
    Height 20cm, diameter 21cm

    This is a remarkable pair of early 19th century porcelain tureens, crafted by the renowned Flight, Barr & Barr manufactory of Worcester. Between 1807 and 1840, this partnership between the Flight family and Martin Barr (c.1784–1848) produced porcelain of exceptional quality, admired for its refined painting, opulent gilding, and elegant neoclassical and botanical decoration. Their work quickly attracted the patronage of both nobility and royalty.

    These tureens are a superb example of the firm’s neoclassical style. Each piece is decorated with a flowing garland of deep purple vine leaves encircling the body, lid, and matching stand. Interlaced amongst the foliage are gilt scrolling patterns, designed to resemble vines and tendrils, while smaller blossoms in soft purple tones enhance the overall harmony of the design.

    Formed in the classical campagna shape, the tureens are fitted with gracefully moulded handles. The bases are further enriched with raised gilded leaves, reinforcing the natural theme. The lids echo the decoration and are finished with finely modelled finials. Their accompanying stands are completed with gadrooned rims, lending an extra touch of elegance and balance to the set.

    Each piece bears the manufactory’s mark to the underside.

    Beautifully executed and richly embellished, this pair of tureens demonstrates the skill and artistry of Flight, Barr & Barr at their height, making them a distinguished centrepiece for any collection or dining table.
