In 1976, Playboy Magazine hired a woman illustrator to artfully depict a young, attractive female masturbating. This could be a first: a major newsstand magazine and a magazine mostly for men's interests chose to get the female gaze to capture a moment of intimate female erotica.

The artwork appeared on page 173 of the January 1976 issue of Playboy Magazine, illustrating the article "Woman!" with the caption "Elizabeth Bennett creates a world suffused with sensuous beauty."
