Pair of Model "1041.32" Table Lamps by Uno & Östen Kristiansson, Sweden ca 1970s

$ 6,270
  • Description
    Swedish lighting manufacturer Luxus gave form to some of the now-iconic models that define the “Swedish mid-century style”. Luxus was founded by Uno Kristiansson circa 1950, in the city of Vittsjö. Their works favoured the use of teak, but did not shy away from using glass, leather, plastic and acrylic.

    Most of Luxus’s products were designed in-house by founders, Uno and Östen Kristiansson, including this model. Design in the mid-century years was fuelled by the development of materials and technology with stunning results as seen in this lamp pair’s design. It also possesses a futuristic impression that is proof of the era’s designers’ creative overflow. By combining quality materials with modern craftsmanship, the focus is on the sleek body of the lamps. Made out of glazed earthenware, the lamps have a rich, shiny colour. The dark tone of the bodies contrast nicely with the unique shades, their shape also increases the visual interest of the design. These acrylic shades are enhanced even more when the lamps are switched on. The combination of materials, shapes, and textures creates this lamp pair’s modern design, a clear return to bright simplicity that is in opposition with the flowing, organic lines of the reconstruction of the early 20th century. Defined by verticality, this model is uniquely stylish and guaranteed to stand out. Adding illumination to a living space with this stylish table lamp pair will not only improve the ambience, it will also bring a piece of design history to the space.

    Swedish designers and founding brothers of Luxus, Uno & Östen Kristiansson were particularly active from the 1950s to the 1970s in Sweden. They were prolific designers with a clear aesthetic that is easily recognisable as Swedish modern. This table lamp model is exemplary of their work and of the era as well.
