Above It All Two Young Men on Mountain Top - Martin Luther King Issue
-
Description
Above it all, two vigorous young men stand on a mountain top. They are depicted in profile, looking out into a sublime, verdant vista of tree-lined mountains punctuated by a winding river. They appear to be on a nature hike, but the image symbolizes youth looking out to a positive future. Legendary artist and illustrator Stan Galli's graphic rendition is defined by simplified shapes and bold, oversaturated colors reminiscent of his poster art for clients such as United Airlines and Disney. The present work, a fold-out cover for Reader's Digest, June 1968, demonstrates a high level of academic skill and a deep understanding of the psychological use of color. This issue includes articles by Martin Luther King Jr. and Dwight D. Eisenhower. Signed in the margin by Stan Galli, unframed on heavy illustration board
