Description
A "Balance C-1551" wall lamp designed by Bertrand Balas for Raak Amsterdam. The fixture is constructed from a single rectangular metal plate, with the center section pushed forward to create an organic, shield-like pocket that houses the light source. This specific example features a rare gold textured finish that provides a warm, atmospheric glow when illuminated. The design emphasizes the contrast between geometric outlines and fluid internal forms.
Bertrand Balas is a French architect and designer, born in Toulouse in 1935, who is best known for his influential contributions to mid-century modern lighting design. His work is characterized by a "sculptural functionalism," often utilizing folded metal, geometric silhouettes, and organic interior cut-outs to manipulate light and shadow. -
