Description
Designed by Angelo Mangiarotti for Skipper in the 1970s, this Eros side table reflects the architect-designer’s rigorous approach to structure and material. Trained as an architect at the Politecnico di Milano, Mangiarotti (1921–2012) developed a body of work defined by clarity of form, technical innovation, and a deep respect for the intrinsic properties of materials. Throughout his career, he collaborated with leading Italian manufacturers, exploring marble, glass, and industrial components with equal sensitivity. The Eros series stands among his most celebrated achievements, embodying his belief that design should arise from construction itself.
Carved from richly veined black Marquina marble, the table consists of a tapering cylindrical base and a cantilevered top joined through Mangiarotti’s renowned gravity-fit system, assembled without screws or adhesives. The biomorphic top, subtly pierced at its center, creates a refined interplay of mass and void while demonstrating the structural strength of stone. Conceived as a side or occasional table for one to two people, this piece remains an enduring icon of Italian modernism, uniting architectural discipline with sculptural elegance. -
