Description
This rare lounge/easy chair was designed by Otto Schulz and produced by Jio Möbler in Jönköping, Sweden in the late 1940s.
The design is distinguished by its curved, enveloping backrest and elegant tufted upholstery details. Combined with the supportive back and a loose, down-filled cushion, the chair offers exceptional comfort. Unsurprisingly, this model named 'Schulz' has become an iconic piece of the Swedish Modern design period.
The chair has been reupholstered in a beautifully textured green Pierre Frey tweed fabric. The solid beech wood legs have been restored and refinished. The chair is in very good condition, ready to be placed.
First introduced in the mid-1930s, the Schulz easy chair was designed by Otto Schulz (1882–1970), a German-born architect and designer who became an influential figure in Swedish interior design. Based in Gothenburg, Schulz founded Boet, a renowned high-end furniture workshop active from 1920 to 1950, and also edited its magazine, which contributed to shaping early Scandinavian design discourse.
The chair was originally produced in-house by Boet in Gothenburg. In 1941, manufacturing shifted to Jio Möbler in Jönköping, a newly established company known for its high-quality, hand-upholstered furniture and attention to craftsmanship. Production of the model continued there in the following years. -
