Description
A rare and sculptural Model TW 58 dish by Tapio Wirkkala, crafted in sterling silver and elegant teak handles. Produced in the 1966 by Kultakeskus in Hämeenlinna, Finland, this piece exemplifies Wirkkala’s profound ability to translate natural forms into refined, tactile objects, its silhouette subtly echoing the organic rhythm of a seashell and resembles and apple.
The dish is fully stamped with the date, sterling silver stamp, Kultakeskus marks, city marks, and Tapio Wirkkala's signature.
Widely regarded as one of the most versatile and visionary designers of the 20th century, Wirkkala rose to international prominence following his celebrated successes at the Milan Triennale during the 1950s. His work is distinguished by a rare synthesis of artistic sensitivity and technical mastery—drawing deeply from the Finnish landscape while demonstrating a precise command of geometry, proportion, and material.
His prolific output spans an extraordinary range: from everyday objects such as currency, cutlery, and glassware, to furniture, jewelry, and sculptural works. Few designers have navigated such a breadth of disciplines with equal authority. Working across materials—from wood and glass to stone, metal, and ceramics—Wirkkala’s legacy is one of total design fluency.
A timeless and collectible example of mid-century Nordic design at its most poetic. -
