Description
The PK54 dining table, designed by Poul Kjærholm in 1963 and produced by E. Kold Christensen in Denmark during the 1960s, stands as one of the most distilled expressions of Danish modernism. The circular marble top introduces a sense of weight and permanence, while the finely engineered steel base provides a counterpoint of lightness and structural clarity. This deliberate contrast between materials is central to Kjærholm’s design philosophy, where industrial precision is combined with a deep sensitivity to proportion and surface.
Kjærholm’s collaboration with Kold Christensen represents the earliest production of his work, preceding the later editions by Fritz Hansen. These early examples are closely aligned with the designer’s original intent, reflecting a high level of craftsmanship and material integrity. The table comfortably seats 6 to 8 people, reinforcing its role as both a functional dining piece and a composed architectural element within an interior. -
