Description
This slatted daybed, designed by Robert Anxionnat around 1960, reflects a rigorous and highly controlled approach to form, in which repetition and structure become central design elements. The surface is composed of a sequence of precisely spaced wooden slats, establishing a linear rhythm that defines both its visual identity and functional character. Elevated on angular supports, the construction emphasizes horizontality and balance, aligning with an architectural sensibility characteristic of French modernist design in the post-war period.
Anxionnat, active as both architect and designer, developed a body of work marked by clarity of line and a disciplined use of materials. His furniture explores modular construction and serial composition, where the articulation of individual elements forms a cohesive and deliberate whole. This daybed exemplifies that approach, occupying a position between utilitarian object and sculptural structure, and reflecting a more architectural interpretation of mid-century modernism. -
