Description
This console table, produced in France during the 1960s, is a compelling example of Brutalist furniture design, where form is shaped through material and structure. The rectangular top is supported by four distinctive legs, each deeply carved in a rhythmic, geometric pattern that emphasizes verticality and repetition. The composition is direct and expressive, with the sculpted surfaces creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow across the wood.
The piece aligns with a broader European Brutalist approach to furniture, where craftsmanship and raw material expression take precedence over ornament. The use of solid wood and the deliberate, almost primitive carving technique give the table a tactile and grounded quality. Both functional and sculptural in presence, it occupies a space between utility and object, making it suitable as a console, side table, or architectural accent within a considered interior. -
