Description
One of Kähler's most recognizable mid-century forms, this tall stoneware vase pairs a textured herringbone body with a vivid cobalt-blue glaze. The unglazed neck and shoulder provide a beautiful contrast, showcasing the natural character of the clay and the workshop's celebrated approach to texture and surface. Sculptural enough to stand on its own, but equally lovely with a few stems, it's a classic example of the bold, organic aesthetic that made Kähler ceramics so enduringly popular. Made in Denmark, 1960.
The color of this slim vase is just WOW. Signed "Nils" / HAK.
11.5" H x 3.1" Diameter
A fourth-generation member of the renowned Kähler pottery dynasty, Nils Kähler helped guide the family workshop through its most influential mid-century years. From 1940, he and his brother Herman jointly managed the business, with Nils serving as artistic director. His designs are typically marked with the signature “Nils” on the underside, making his work especially sought after by collectors of Scandinavian ceramics. The brothers parted ways in 1968, and the original family pottery closed in 1974. Today, the Kähler name lives on through a revived brand that continues to produce thoughtfully designed ceramics, drawing inspiration from many of the classic forms created during the family's historic era. -
