Pair of Wall Sconces by Toni Zuccheri for Venini, Squared Murano Tronchis

A striking and highly sculptural pair of wall sconces designed by Toni Zuccheri for Venini in the 1970s. Each fixture is composed of thick hand-blown Murano glass elements with a deeply textured, architectural surface resembling stacked ice blocks or carved crystal. The glass panels are suspended from a lacquered metal frame, creating a rhythmic vertical composition that diffuses light with exceptional warmth and depth.

When illuminated, the substantial glass catches and refracts the light beautifully, producing a luminous glow and dramatic interplay of transparency, shadow, and texture. The brutalist geometry softened by artisanal glasswork is characteristic of Zuccheri's experimental approach to Murano lighting during this period.

Toni Zuccheri (1936–2008) was one of the most innovative postwar Italian glass designers. Born in San Vito al Tagliamento and later based in Venice, he began collaborating with Venini in the early 1960s. Initially known for his celebrated glass animal sculptures, he later developed bold lighting and vessel designs distinguished by thick textures, organic forms, and technical experimentation. Zuccheri's work bridged art, craft, and industrial design, making him a defining figure in twentieth-century Murano glass.
