Description
Pair of “Radar” outdoor lounge chairs designed by Maurizio Tempestini for John B. Salterini, United States, circa 1950s. The chairs are constructed of wrought iron with circular outer frames and expanded-metal mesh panels forming the seat and back. Four splayed rod-form legs terminate in circular disc feet. The chairs have been fully restored and newly powder coated in a textured matte white finish. Two pairs are available for a total of four chairs. Sold per pair.
The Radar series is documented as a Tempestini design for Salterini and was produced as a group of outdoor seating and related patio furniture during the mid-20th century. Period examples appear in several configurations, including lounge, rocking, and cantilevered chairs.
Maurizio Tempestini was an Italian-born architect and designer active in the United States during the mid-20th century. He is particularly associated with designs for Salterini, for whom he developed wrought-iron outdoor furniture characterized by lightweight frameworks, curved geometries, and open metal construction.
John B. Salterini was an American manufacturer specializing in wrought-iron furniture during the 20th century. Based in New York, the company produced furniture intended for both outdoor and interior use and worked with designers including Tempestini. Salterini’s mid-century production included dining, lounge, and occasional furniture executed primarily in wrought iron. -
