Description
An exceptional five-piece dining set designed by Mario Papperzini and produced in Italy for Janus et Cie, comprising a sculptural wrought iron dining table and a matching set of four armchairs. Celebrated for its timeless architectural aesthetic, this rare dining ensemble beautifully blends Italian craftsmanship with Janus et Cie's refined indoor-outdoor design philosophy.
The chairs showcase Papperzini's signature geometric lattice construction, featuring gracefully curved backs, integrated armrests, elegant spherical finials, and hand-forged wrought iron frames. Their open grid design creates a light, airy silhouette while remaining remarkably sturdy and comfortable. The chairs may be used with or without cushions, allowing designers to customize the look for both residential and hospitality interiors.
The matching round dining table features a substantial wrought iron base supporting a thick circular glass top. Decorative intersecting oval motifs and slender tapered legs echo the chair design, creating a cohesive architectural statement. The current 42-inch glass top comfortably seats four, while the robust base can accommodate a larger custom glass top for additional seating. Alternatively, it can accept a 34-inch glass insert that nests neatly within the iron frame for a different presentation.
With its restrained elegance and versatile scale, this dining set works beautifully in Mediterranean, Spanish Revival, Modern, Transitional, Postmodern, Contemporary, Coastal, and Indoor/Outdoor luxury interiors. An ideal acquisition for discerning collectors and interior designers seeking authentic Janus et Cie furniture with enduring appeal.
Condition
The dining set is in good vintage condition.
The four chairs retain their original black finish and present well, exhibiting only light age-appropriate wear including scattered nicks, scratches, and minor oxidation near the feet, consistent with years of careful use. They remain structurally sound and exceptionally well made.
The dining table is likewise in very good vintage condition with light surface wear, including scattered nicks and scratches to the iron frame. The thick glass top displays normal signs of use consistent with age.
