Description
An elegant pair of Model 2135 wall sconces designed by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte during the early 1960s. This refined model perfectly illustrates Ingrand's mastery of light, proportion, and glass, combining minimalist architectural lines with luxurious materials in a timeless Italian modernist composition. The model is documented in Fontana Arte archives and period literature.
Each sconce features a gently curved frosted glass diffuser framed by thick aqua-tinted glass side panels with polished edges. The diffuser is mounted within a finely patinated brass structure, creating a subtle interplay between translucent, coloured glass and warm metal. When illuminated, the opaline diffuser emits a soft, even light while the beveled glass edges capture and refract the illumination, producing the elegant luminous effect that characterizes Max Ingrand's finest designs.
Max Ingrand (1908–1969) was one of the most influential French glass artists and lighting designers of the twentieth century. Appointed artistic director of Fontana Arte in 1954, he transformed the Italian company into a benchmark of modern lighting through his masterful use of glass, light, and refined proportions. Blending French elegance with Italian craftsmanship, Ingrand created some of Fontana Arte's most celebrated mirrors, lamps, chandeliers, and sconces. His designs remain highly sought after for their timeless sophistication, exceptional material quality, and enduring influence on mid-century modern design. -
