Max Ingrand
French, 1908 - 1969
Max Ingrand (1908–1969) was a celebrated French designer known for his pioneering work in stained glass, interior décor, and lighting. Born in Bressuire, France, he studied decorative arts at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts and the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris. After early training under glass master Jacques Grüber, Ingrand launched his own workshop in 1931, earning prestigious commissions including paneling for landmark buildings and the ocean liner SS Normandie.
In 1954, he became artistic director of the Italian design firm FontanaArte, where he created some of his most iconic works, including the “Fontana” table lamp, celebrated for its clean glass forms and modernist elegance. At the same time, he designed monumental stained-glass windows for cathedrals and public buildings across Europe and beyond.
Ingrand’s work combined luminous purity with architectural scale and technical innovation, earning him France’s Legion of Honour. His lighting and glass designs remain highly influential, admired by collectors and designers worldwide.
