1950s Eames Molded Plywood Folding Screen

$ 4,500
  • Description
    Herman Miller 6 panel Birch plywood screen. Designed by Ray and Charles Eames. This is an early example of this design classic, based on the fabric hinges and patina. The screen is constructed from six U-shaped, molded plywood panels connected by fabric hinges. Developed in 1946 using techniques from Eames wartime plywood experiments, the panels are created by alternating layers of veneer and adhesive, then pressing them into a curved, undulating wave shape.
    Production of these screens was discontinued in 1955 due to the time consuming labour intensive method of attaching the canvas. It was later revived in the early 2000s.
