Description
This exceptional early 19th-century Swedish Neoclassical mirror is hand-carved in wood and retains its beautifully aged original painted surface with a soft, timeworn patina. The architectural crest is decorated with a pair of opposing winged sphinxes flanking a classical torch, an elegant motif inspired by ancient antiquity and favored in Swedish Gustavian design during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Fine egg-and-dart molding, carved foliate details, and crisp geometric borders frame the original mirror plate, while the lower section retains its original iron candle holder, allowing the piece to function as a traditional mirror sconce. The restrained palette and refined classical ornament exemplify the timeless elegance of Swedish craftsmanship. Ideal for an entryway, powder room, bedroom, or hallway, this mirror adds warmth, history, and sophisticated Scandinavian character to any interior.
This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions! -
