'Sälen' Easy Chairs in Leather and Teak by Ib Kofod-Larsen, 1950s

This rare pair of Sälen easy chairs was designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by OPE Möbler in Sweden. As one of Kofod-Larsen’s most celebrated designs, the Sälen chair exemplifies the Danish designer’s mastery in creating organic, sculptural forms that balance comfort, elegance, and material richness.

Each chair features a solid teak frame, notable for its fluid, almost animal-like silhouette that gives the model its evocative name. The wood has a deep, reddish-brown hue, with beautifully exposed grain that complements the soft curves and architectural angles of the construction. The armrests are particularly striking—broad and sculpted with an inward sweep—designed to provide both visual rhythm and ergonomic support.

The chairs are upholstered in their original black leather, which has developed a handsome patina over time. The leather remains supple and structurally sound, showing light creasing and surface variation consistent with careful vintage use.
