Description
Original oil on canvas painting of a young woman with child in a garden in the moon light. The artist is the well known American painter, Edward Percy Moran. Signed by the artist lower right and dated 1892. Condition is very good. On the verso of the canvas has written the artist and collector names. The painting is housed in an antique wood frame with a washed finish. Overall framed measurements are 28.5 by 22 inches. Provenance: A Ohio estate.
Edward Percy Moran (1862-1935)
Edward Percy Moran was a painter and etcher. He studied under his father, Edward Moran, and also at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts with S. J. Ferris and the National Academy of Design. He had further four-year training in London and Paris and kept studios in New York and Long Island after returning to the United States. He exhibited frequently at the National Academy of Design and the Brooklyn Art Association from 1861 to 1899. He was a member of the American Watercolor Society. He received a prize in 1886 for his work exhibited at the National Academy of Design. He received a gold award at the American Artists Association, NYC in 1888.
His specialties were Colonial and historical subjects. His work has been preserved at the Wilstach Gallery in Philadelphia, the Masonic Hall in Chicago, Plymouth Museum, and at Hamilton Club in Brooklyn.
His last know address was East Hampton, New York. -
