Description
A refined pair of “Yara” side tables designed by Sergio Rodrigues in Brazil during the 1960s. Crafted in richly figured freijó wood, each table reflects Rodrigues’ distinctive synthesis of architectural structure, material honesty, and functional design.
The open construction is defined by four vertical supports, subtly rounded edges, exposed metal hardware, and warm, expressive wood grain. Each table incorporates a single drawer with a recessed circular pull, an open lower shelf, and a clear glass top that appears to float within the frame. The transparency of the glass provides a light counterpoint to the solidity and warmth of the Brazilian hardwood.
Compact yet visually commanding, the tables balance substantial construction with an open, airy profile. Their versatile proportions make them equally compelling as bedside tables, nightstands, or sculptural end tables within a living room or library.
Professionally restored and finished in a restrained satin-matte sheen that preserves the natural depth, tonal variation, and character of the freijó wood. Excellent vintage condition, consistent with age and use.
A highly collectible pair by one of the most influential figures in Brazilian Modernism, embodying Sergio Rodrigues’ enduring commitment to clarity of construction, expressive materials, and modern Brazilian craftsmanship. -
