Description
Archimede Seguso rare large sconce or wall light in richly ribbed amber Murano glass with subtle iridescent coloration and brass, Italy, 1950s.
This sculptural elegant sconce features a substantial hand-blown glass diffuser with pronounced vertical ribbing and a softly scalloped upper edge. The thick amber glass has a subtle iridescent quality, revealing nuanced shifts in tone depending on the light and viewing angle.
The diffuser is complemented by a separately formed elongated Murano glass finial below, deeply ribbed and tapering to a point. Its more pronounced iridescent coloration adds depth to the composition while echoing the texture and color of the upper glass element.
The glass is supported by a simple brass arm and original circular brass wall plate, allowing the expressive form and quality of the Murano glass to remain the focus.
Particularly notable for its generous scale and unusual combination of a deeply fluted glass cup with an elongated glass pendant, this is a distinctive example of Archimede Seguso's postwar Murano lighting production. The substantial proportions and strongly modeled glass give the sconce an architectural and sculptural presence characteristic of the finest Italian decorative lighting of the period. -
