Massive French 19th Century Symmetrical Gold Gilt Mirror

This enormous giltwood frame comes from 19th-century France and is intricately carved with countless oak leaves and acorns. These delicate carvings interact with the light beautifully across the frame’s nicely patinated surface. Two borders, one carved with scallop shell motifs and one smooth, surround the new mirror plate, which is in good condition with a clear reflection and no signs of foxing. All throughout this piece, areas of the gilding have been worn to reveal the red bole underneath, which was used to fix the gold leaf to the wooden frame. This mirror would make a dramatic yet elegant addition to any space and can be hung vertical y of horizontal. Gently cleaned and ready to hang in your home. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering the age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
