Museum Mile Reinvention

The owners of this New York apartment on Museum Mile wanted to preserve its rich history: the building is an architectural gem, designed by Stanford White, and the apartment was a hub for high-society parties in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Instead of completely erasing history, the renovation celebrated it while revitalizing the apartment. Original paneling and tracery details remain but were whitewashed; the gallery became an art-filled reception space, and an oval reception room became a large, sleek living room. The owners came to the project with a deep knowledge of design, particularly mid- to late-twentieth-century modern furniture and decorative arts, and found willing collaborators in Ferguson & Shamamian and interior designer Jacques Grange.
