1940s Tropical Regency Palazzo in Palm Beach
For this iconic Palm Beach villa designed and built by high-society architect Clarence Mack in 1940, Gil Walsh, of Gil Walsh Interiors, fashioned a sensitive restoration and decoration that acknowledged the house's imposing past while preparing it for its future. Situated in Palm Beach's exquisite Estate Section just steps from the ultra-luxury shopping mecca of Worth Avenue, and a short block from the beach, Lakeview House has been home to a list of luminaries that have included a princess, a duchess and a well-known star of the stage and screen. It has played host to British royalty and Hollywood legends, most notably Bob Hope and Elizabeth Taylor. The architecture firm of Smith & Moore reworked the house's approach by adding an entrance that opens directly onto the piano nobile floor. The exterior paint color, originally white, was changed to a soft yellow, allowing the architectural details to reveal themselves in subtle highlight.
