Pair of Miniature Portraits of Mr. and Mrs. Durbin From Kentucky Watercolor in original frames, circa 1830. Marked on reverse Mr. Durbin and Mrs. Durbin of Kentucky. Probably Hardin County, Kentucky. These sitters are identified by family tradition as John C. Durbin (1805–1883) and his wife Rebecca Durbin (1809–1901). John C. Durbin is recorded in the 1850 US Census as a "Doctor & Farmer" in Hardin Co., Kentucky. By 1860, Dr. Hardin and his large family moved to Louisville, where he operated a medical practice for the remaining two decades of his life. By tradition, the present portraits were executed as wedding portraits for the young couple, around 1830. Price Upon Request |

An extraordinary George III cabinet with triple breakfront glazed windows above a lower range of stepped doors, surmounted by an ogee molded architrave with three triangle pediments, all in richly grained mahogany. Original hand floated wavy glass throughout. Exceptional quality craftsmanship, in the manner of, and possibly by, Gillows. Of monumental scale, and with an architectural presence, this is a piece to design a room around.
