Interior by Suzanne Kasler.

The Pacific Design Center (PDC) is kicking off its fortieth anniversary celebration with the WESTWEEK 2015 Spring Market -- the West Coast’s definitive showcase for global design. Located in a sprawling multi-use facility in Los Angeles’ historic design district, the PDC houses the region’s top decorating and furniture market. Boasting over 120 showrooms, the PDC is a key resource for interior designers, architects, decorators, and dealers.

Held from Wednesday, March 25, through Thursday, March 26, the two-day event will attract tastemakers from across the globe thanks to its inimitable roster of open houses, keynotes, informative presentations, and engaging panel discussions, featuring over thirty of the world’s leading interior designers. WESTWEEK attendees will also get exclusive looks at the latest luxury furnishings and interior resources crafted by today’s foremost design innovators.

The first not-be-missed WESTWEEK event is Margaret Russell’s keynote, Personal Best, at the Silver Screen Theatre on Wednesday, March 25, from 10AM to 11AM. Russell, the Editor-in-Chief of Architectural Digest, will lead AD100 designers Alexa Hampton and Michael S. Smith in conversation about their own recent projects -- Hampton, who is based in New York, recently renovated her own magnificent Manhattan apartment, and Smith, the Los Angeles-based designer who was hand-picked by President Obama to redecorate the White House, overhauled his stylish mid century modern Palm Springs abode. Hampton and Smith will discuss how their personal design decisions inform and influence their work for their clients as well as offer up ideas for refreshing your own home.

On Wednesday, March 25, at 11:30AM, California Homes Editor-in-Chief, Susan McFadden, will speak with Suzanne Kasler about her new book, Timeless Style, as well as her inspirations and singular design philosophy. Kasler, who is based in Atlanta, believes that "a room should be collected, not decorated." Her expertly crafted interiors seamlessly incorporate the personal collections of her clients with fine art and antiques, contemporary pieces, and custom-designed furniture. Elegant, timeless, and  inviting, Kasler’s style is rooted in her comprehensive knowledge of interior architecture and decorative arts. Her classically inspired spaces, charming palettes, and comfortable interiors have been featured in Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, House Beautiful, Traditional Home, and Veranda. The presentation will be held at Witford (Suite 500).

Design in the Digital Age, a panel discussion on the intersection between technology and design, will take place on Wednesday at 1PM at Crestron Electronics (Suite G288). California Home + Design’s Editor-at-Large, Jennifer Mehditash, will lead Jaime Derringer, Founder and Executive Editor of Design Milk, product designer Brendan Ravenhill, and bloggers/designers Christian May (maison21), and Justina Blakeney (The Jungalow) in a dynamic conversation about the changing nature of design in today’s digital world and the online platforms that give an unprecedented number of people around the world access to innovative design and architecture.

Interior by Tucker & Marks.

At 2PM on Wednesday at Ebanista (Suite G190,) Robb Report Home & Style Editor Lori Bryan will lead a discussion titled A Classical Foundation for Contemporary Living with world-renowned estate architect Richard Landry and celebrated interior designers Geoffrey Bradfield and Suzanne Tucker. The panel will focus on the art of creating refined and enduring residences that successfully merge classical architecture with contemporary lifestyles. Tucker, who founded the San Francisco-based firm Tucker & Marks in 1986, has long been considered one of the most respected and influential interior designers in the country. A perennial on the AD100 list of top designers, Tucker is known for her passion for architecture and design, her timeless yet modern style, and her knack for incorporating antiques, textiles, and decorative arts into her interiors. Bradfield, who is based in New York, creates one-of-a-kind spaces that are refined, luxurious, exquisitely curated, and completely of the moment. Bradfield has designed homes for a number of prominent clients, including Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney and the late King Hussein, and has been featured innumerable times on the AD100 list.

On Thursday, March 26, at 11:30AM at Schumacher/Patterson, Flynn & Martin (Suite B489), Luxe Interiors + Design’s Editor-in-Chief Pamela Jaccarino will host an up-close-and-personal conversation with celebrated designer, author, and TV personality, Mary McDonald. McDonald, who combines old-fashioned elegance with contemporary elements to create exuberant spaces, will discuss her creative passions, how her sensibilities and inspirations inform her work, and what projects she has on the horizon.

On Thursday at 1PM at Baker Knapps & Tubbs  (Suite B525), John Hart, Kohler Interiors’ Chief Creative Officer and President of McGuire Furniture, will discuss the secrets to design licensing with celebrated designers India Hicks, the Founder and creative force behind IndiaHicks.com, Julia Buckingham, Principal of Chicago’s Buckingham Interiors + Design, and Laurie Salmore, Founder/Principal of Salmore Partners. The panel will discuss the ins-and-outs of design licensing and brand building, including how to get started, how to get noticed, and pitfalls to avoid.

Immediately following the panel at Baker Knapps & Tubbs, WESTWEEK attendees will want to head to the Reagan Hayes showroom in the Blue Conference Center (Suite B529), where Erin Gates, the brains behind the wildly successful design blog Elements of Style, will discuss using social media to grow your brand. Gates will be joined by Los Angeles interior designer Betsy Burnham, who marries the classic with the unexpected, Nashville’s Benjamin Vandiver, an expert at creating smart interiors that blend traditional and modern elements, and Louise Youngson-Klasfeld, from the online marketplace Viyet. The panelists will discuss how they use social media platforms to grow their brand and reach new clients.

WESTWEEK’s jam-packed schedule will also include the Stars of Design ceremony on Wednesday, March 25, at Spectra by Wolfgang Puck. The event will honor Southern California’s most prolific talents for their accomplishments, commitment to excellence, and contributions to their profession across the creative disciplines. As part of the PDC’s anniversary milestone, this year’s invite-only cocktail party pays tribute to nearly 200 past honorees awarded over the past twenty years.
