NOMAD Makes Its
U.S. Debut in the Hamptons

by Benjamin Genocchio

NOMAD, the international art and design fair, makes its U.S. debut in the Hamptons, introducing a sophisticated mix of collectible design, contemporary art, and architectural dialogue to one of the country's most affluent and culturally engaged summer destinations. From June 25–28, NOMAD will occupy the grounds of the Watermill Center, the experimental arts campus founded by the late theater director, artist, and impresario Robert Wilson.

Since its founding in 2017 by curator and architect Nicolas Bellavance-Lecompte and entrepreneur Giorgio Pace, NOMAD has distinguished itself from conventional fair models by staging intimate exhibitions in architecturally significant settings—from villas in Monaco and Capri to palazzos in Venice and, most recently, Abu Dhabi. Rather than rows of standardized booths, galleries create bespoke presentations that respond to the character of each venue. The choice of the Hamptons reflects both the region's growing importance as a destination for design collectors and the fair's ambition to engage audiences in a more relaxed, residential context. As Bellavance-Lecompte has noted, NOMAD seeks collectors who “are willing to spend time with objects and ideas rather than rushing through crowded convention halls.”

At Watermill Center, visitors will encounter presentations distributed throughout the institution's Bauhaus-inspired buildings and surrounding landscape. Among the exhibitors confirmed for the inaugural Hamptons edition are several leading international and American galleries specializing in collectible design and contemporary art. Returning NOMAD participants include Gallery FUMI and Leila Heller Gallery, while New York-based exhibitors include The Future Perfect, Maison Gerard, Todd Merrill Studio, Sebastien Leon, and Southampton gallery Jeff Lincoln Art + Design, recently rebranded as JK Art & Design Projects.

Incollect dealer Todd Merrill Studio will present a 1,000-square-foot salon-style installation, marking the gallery’s second collaboration with NOMAD, following participation in NOMAD St. Moritz in 2025. This year’s presentation will highlight a collection of sculptural contemporary design and fine art by the gallery’s roster of artists and makers. Meanwhile, Incollect dealer Leila Heller Gallery's presentation will feature works by Iranian designer and artist Roham Shamekh alongside large-scale mixed-media works by Korean artist Ran Hwang. Both these booths, and others, exemplify the fair's commitment to crossing disciplinary boundaries between functional design and contemporary art.

In total, approximately twenty-three exhibitors from Europe, the Middle East, and the United States are expected to participate, underscoring NOMAD's international scope while introducing a distinctly global perspective to the East End's summer calendar.
